A 71-year-old man from Ovid, Idaho, has died following a traffic crash in Bear Lake County on Thursday, August 27, 2026. Idaho State Police is investigating the fatal incident, which occurred on North Road just west of Johnson Road in Ovid.
According to a news release from Idaho State Police, the crash was reported at approximately 11:12 a.m. The man was traveling eastbound on North Road on a 2014 Polaris Sportsman when the incident occurred.
A 22-year-old man from Nibley, Utah, was traveling in the opposite direction in a 2021 GMC Savana. Investigators said the driver of the Polaris abruptly swerved in an attempt to avoid a collision with the GMC.
The maneuver caused the Polaris to lose control. The vehicle left the south side of the roadway, struck a concrete barrier and overturned.
The 71-year-old rider was injured in the crash and transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital. Despite receiving medical attention, he later died from injuries sustained in the accident.
